BUFFALO, N.Y. (WBEN) - U.S. Senator Chuck Schumer called the sexual harassment allegations against Governor Andrew Cuomo "serious" and "deeply troubling" but stopped short of calling on the governor to resign amid his controversies.

"We have to listen to the women," Schumer said. "I have always believed that sexual harassment is not acceptable and can't be tolerated. I, early on, called for the attorney general to do an investigation and I have confidence that she will do a complete and thorough investigation. She will follow every lead and interview and use her subpoena power. She will turn over every stone and I have faith that she will make sure there will be no outside interference, political or otherwise."

New York Attorney General Letitia James on Monday appointed former United States Attorney Joon H. Kim and employment discrimination attorney Anne Clark to lead the investigation into sexual harassment allegations against the governor.

"They are both independent, legal experts with decades of experience," James wrote on Twitter Monday. "There is no question they have the knowledge and background necessary to lead this investigation and provide New Yorkers with the answers they deserve."

The governor is also facing allegations of a cover up after the Wall Street Journal and New York Times exposed the governor's administration for underreporting nursing home deaths as early as last summer. The federal government is currently investigating the Cuomo administration over the nursing home scandal. The state legislature is also planning to investigate the administration over the allegations.

"That's being investigated by others and that should be investigated too," Cuomo said. "I think each one has to be looked into and looked into seriously. They're all serious allegations. All of them have to be looked into thoroughly. I have faith in the attorney general's investigation in harassment."

Governor Cuomo said he will not resign amid allegations.
