A 43-year-old nurse at a Staten Island, New York hospital has been arrested for allegedly stealing and using the credit card of a patient who died from coronavirus, according to reports.

Danielle Conti, of Old Bridge, New Jersey, was working as a nurse for Staten Island University Hospital when she allegedly took the credit card belonging to a 70-year-old man who was being treated for COVID-19, the Staten Island Advance reported.

The man reportedly succumbed to the disease on April 12.

The man’s 37-year-old daughter contacted authorities when she discovered the charges to her father's credit card after his death.

The nurse has been charged with grand larceny, criminal possession of stolen property and petit larceny, police confirmed to the Advance.

In a statement to the newspaper, the hospital said Conti has been temporarily suspended and faces possible termination.

“Danielle Conti has been temporarily suspended and faces termination in response to the felony charges," according to the statement. "We are working closely with the law enforcement authorities and the hospital is conducting its own investigation. Ms. Conti has been an employee since 2007.”
