Orchard Park, N.Y. (WGR 550) - While there was some encouraging news with some, six Buffalo Bills players did not participate in practice on Wednesday due to injury.
The Bills held a walk-through practice, as the team began preparations for their AFC Divisional Round playoff matchup with the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday at Highmark Stadium. Wednesday's injury report is an estimation of what would be a full practice.
Cornerback Christian Benford (knee), linebacker Terrell Bernard (ankle), wide receiver Gabe Davis (knee), punter Sam Martin (hamstring), safety Taylor Rapp (calf), and linebacker Baylon Spector (back) were all non-participants for the first practice of the week.
Cornerback Taron Johnson remains in the league's concussion protocol, but was a limited participant on Wednesday.
After missing Monday afternoon's win over the Pittsburgh Steelers, cornerback Rasul Douglas and linebacker Tyrel Dodson were both estimated as having practiced.
Davis and Rapp also missed Monday's game.
Head coach Sean McDermott did not give anything definitive on any of the players' possible status for this coming weekend. However, he did say there is "hope" for Bernard, especially considering how bad the injury looked on Monday when he was carted off the field.
McDermott adds Bernard was taking part in team meetings on Wednesday morning.
With Martin's injury and uncertain status come Sunday, the team has re-signed punter Matt Haack to their practice squad. Haack served as the Bills' punter and holder in 2021.
McDermott also said Wednesday that although defensive tackle Jordan Phillips is eligible to have his 21-day practice window opened, he is not yet ready to return from wrist surgery. He will remain on Injured Reserve for now.
