Buffalo, N.Y. (WGR 550) - In the moments just before the NHL Trade Deadline at 3 p.m. EST on Friday, the Buffalo Sabres completed a minor trade with the Sharks, sending goalie Devin Cooley to San Jose for a seventh-round pick in the 2025 NHL Draft.
Cooley has split time in net with veteran Dustin Tokarski and rookie Devon Levi with the Rochester Americans throughout the course of the 2023-24 season.
In 14 games played with the Amerks this season, the 26-year-old netminder went 6-6-2 with a 3.37 goals-against average and an .891 save percentage.
Cooley was a college hockey champion during his playing days at the University of Denver, and eventually signed an entry-level contract with the Nashville Predators in 2020. He eventually signed a one-year deal this past offseason to join the Sabres after three seasons spent in the Predators organization.
Cooley now returns to his home roots in San Jose, where he grew up just 15 minutes away from the Sharks' home rink at SAP Center. He will report to the San Jose Barracuda in the AHL, who plays their home games at Tech CU Arena in San Jose.
He also played his youth hockey days with the Jr. Sharks program.
