(WWJ) As the first recreational marijuana sales rolled out this weekend in Michigan, so did the first crash where the driver was suspected of being under the influence of pot.

Michigan State Police say a man high on marijuana slammed into a trooper's fully marked SUV at about 9 a.m. on Sunday.

The trooper was responding to a traffic crash in Springfield Township when his vehicle was struck. No injuries were reported.

"(The accident) is a reminder that on the day legal marijuana can be purchased, do not smoke and drive. Just like alcohol, use a ride service, designated driver or stay home," state police said in another tweet.

Medical cannabis has been allowed for about 300,000 patients for more than a decade, but Sunday marked the first opportunity for people who were not medically qualified to purchase it legally. Hundreds of people lined up in Ann Arbor to be the first to buy legally, some waiting for hours in wind and rain.
