Detroit Police Seek Tips On Molotov Cocktail Thrown At Home [VIDEO]

(WWJ) A Detroit man was inside his west side home, Wednesday afternoon, when he heard a loud crash.

That sound turned out to be a Molotov cocktail thrown at his house.


The Detroit Police Department on Friday released video and still images of the crime, as they ask for help from the public to identify and locate the culprit.

According to investigators, it happened at around 12:30 p.m., in the 17000 block of Ohio St., in the area of W. McNichols and Wyoming Ave.

When the victim investigated the crashing noise, he discovered that the rear kitchen curtains of his home were on fire. He immediately extinguished the flames and was not injured, police said,

Home surveillance video captured an unknown male suspect throwing two bottles containing a liquid accelerant at the back of the house, before fleeing the area on foot, northbound through the alley.

A motive for the crime is unknown at this time. 

The suspect is described as a black male, around 6' tall, with a slim build and a medium complexion. He was wearing a black t-shirt, black pants and light blue gym shoes. A mask covered a portion of his face. 

Police say the man is wanted on arson and other charges.
