Man Spraying Fire Extinguisher Causes Scare At Oakland County Hotel

ROCHESTER HILLS (WWJ) - A fire alarm jolts guests at an Oakland County hotel awake early Tuesday morning but as it turns out, there was no fire.

It happened at the Woodspring Suites extended stay hotel off M-59 and Adams Road in Rochester Hills.

Fire alarms went off early in the morning but officials say it wasn't because of a fire. A man was running up and down the halls on the second floor spraying a fire extinguisher. Discharge from the extinguisher had the appearance of smoke, which led some to believe there was a fire.

Sylvia Henderson, who has been staying at the hotel for a couple months, said things are normally quiet in the building. But last night, she opened her door and was afraid.

"When you open your door, you just see this haze. I'm, like, thinking it's smoke," Henderson told WWJ's Mike Campbell. "It wasn't, is what they're saying. It was the guy was going crazy with the fire extinguisher."

Fire officials responded to the scene and guests were briefly evacuated from the building while it was being ventilated.

One suspect was taken into custody at the scene.

No injuries were reported.
