(WWJ) An Ohio man was killed in a crash early Friday morning, in Monroe County's Bedford Township.
According to Monroe County Sheriff Dale Malone, excessive speed and alcohol appear to be factors in the crash, just after 1 a.m., along Dean Rd., east of Crabb Rd.
Investigators say 39-year-old David Smith of Toledo was driving a black GMC Envoy was headed eastbound on Dean, when he veered off the roadway and hit a mailbox.
He got back on the road, but then went into a ditch, overturned and struck a utility pole.
Smith, who was alone in the SUV, died at the scene.
No other vehicles appeared to be involved, and no additional injuries were reported.
An investigation by deputies and the sheriff's office Traffic Services Division is ongoing.
