SOUTHFIELD (WWJ) - A Southfield man is jailed on attempted murder and other charges after shooting up a gas station, wounding two people.
Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged 31-year-old Charles Anthony Phillips in connection with the non-fatal shootings of a 13-year-old Redford boy and a 23-year-old Lincoln Park man inside a gas station on Telegraph Road, near 7 Mile in Detroit last Friday.
According to investigators, Phillips opened fire inside the gas station, near 7 Mile Road, a little before 10:30 p.m. before fleeing on foot.
Police arrived on the scene to find the teenage victim suffering from a serious gunshot wound. He was taken by EMS to a local hospital for treatment. Meanwhile, police learned a second victim had already gone to the hospital for treatment of a gunshot wound.
After media coverage of the incident, Phillips turned himself in to police.
It's unclear at this time if the victims were targeted, if they were bystanders, or what prompted the shooting. Their names were not released.
Phillips was arraigned in 36th District Court Monday afternoon on three counts of Assault With Intent to Murder, Discharge of a Weapon in a Building Causing Serious Impairment, Discharge of a Weapon in a Building Causing Injury, Carrying a Concealed Weapon, Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Felon in Possession of Ammunition, Carrying a Dangerous Weapon with Unlawful Intent, and eight counts of Felony Firearm.
Bond was set at $500,000 cash or surety. A probable cause conference was scheduled for July 12, followed by a preliminary examination for July 17.
