EAST LANSING (WWJ) - One person has died in a crash involving at salt truck at Michigan State University.
According to police, the victim -- identified as an MSU student -- was riding a moped shortly before 8 a.m. Tuesday when he or she crashed into the track at the intersection of Shaw Lane and Chestnut Road.
In a statement, MSU said the community is grieving the loss of the student, who died at the scene, adding that, in accordance with the family's wishes, the university will not be releasing the student's name.
Other details, including the student's age and hometown, were also not disclosed. At this time, it's not known if the truck driver could face charges as it is unclear who was at fault.
"The MSU Police Department is investigating the cause of the crash. It is an open and ongoing investigation," the statement continues. "Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and the entire MSU community."
