(WWJ) A young man is in custody in connection with the shooting death of an 18-year-old high school senior in Lapeer County.

Metamora Township Police said they discovered Kaden James Ryan in a mobile home on S. Lapeer Rd., after getting a call about an "accidental shooting" at around 12 a.m. Tuesday. He had a gunshot wound to his torso.

Officers tried to save the teen's life, but were unsuccessful. The teen was taken by EMS to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Evidence was collected at the scene, police said, and officers took a 19-year-old suspect custody on charges to be determined by Lapeer County Prosecutor's Office.

It's not yet clear how the suspect and the victim knew each other, and other circumstances of the shooting have not been released.

On Wednesday, police said the investigation was still ongoing, with Michigan State Police and the Lapeer County Sheriff's Office assisting.

According to an online obituary, Ryan was was a senior at Lapeer High School and was looking forward to graduating this spring.

“He loved working on cars with his Dad and followed through with this passion by enrolling in the auto body program at Ed-Tech. Kaden loved shoes, video games, Nike apparel and Mickey-D’s!! Kaden loved to make the people around him happy,” the obituary reads.

The suspect's name was being withheld pending an arraignment set to take place Wednesday in Lapeer County District Court.
