(WWJ) -- A Shelby Township couple is facing charges of arson for allegedly setting fire to an Oakland County home under construction twice in the same day.
Authorities say they found a paystub from the woman's employer -- complete with her name and address -- they used to help start the fire and later found neighborhood surveillance video showing the couple running from the scene.
Abigail Marie Grzywacz and Samuel Blair Wolfe, both 20 years old, were arraigned Tuesday in 52nd District Court on two counts each for 3rd degree arson -- a felony that carries a punishment of up to 10 years in prison.
Authorities were called to the scene of a house fire around 2 p.m. on Sunday, June 20 in the 4400 block of Applewood Court and quickly extinguished the fire at the unoccupied home that was under construction.
Authorities say the Oakland County Sheriff's Office's Fire Investigations Unit was called to the scene to determine a cause of the fire, as officials discovered there were other locations within the home where it appeared there were other attempts to start additional fires.
Not even eight hours later, deputies and firefighters were called back to the same house around 9:15 p.m. for a second fire, which was again extinguished.
Damage to the structure was minimal, but investigators returned to the scene Monday to gether evidence and determined the cause of the fire was arson.
Authorities were able to identify Grzywacz as a suspect after finding a paystub from her emplyer that had her name and address on it, and she was arrested a short time later.
Wolfe was arrested a short time later, and authorities say both suspects made incriminating statements to investigators.
To put a cherry on top of the investigation, authorities received a video from neighbors that showed the couple running from the scene after starting the second fire and driving away.
Investigators believe the home site was chosen at random and say there was no apparent motive for arson.
A judge set a $5,000 personal bond for both Wolfe and Grzywacz, and they're both set to appear in court on July 1.
"Through the great partnership of the Oakland Township Fire Department and the Oakland County Sheriff's Office fire investigation team, the home was protected from destruction and the perpetrators were identified and arrested," Sheriff Michael Bouchard said in a press release. "They would have put firefighters' lives in jeopardy as well as destroyed a home, had their fire spread further. We look forward to them being held accountable for their actions."
