(WWJ) — An investigation is ongoing after a vehicle was pulled from the Black River in St. Clair County last weekend.
According to the St. Clair County Sheriff's Office, a resident called Saturday to report their SONAR had picked up a possible vehicle in while doing clean up in the river.
St. Clair County Dive Team responded, went into the water and "confirmed there was indeed a car at the bottom of the river," according to a Facebook post.
Due to it's condition, the sheriff's office said it was obvious that the car had been in the water for some time, and no one was in danger, The car was safely removed from the water.
Investigator spoke with area residents and learned from a neighbor that a man was driving on the ice and broke through, back in 2016. The car sunk, the neighbor said, and it was reported that the driver simply walked away.
The case was turned over to the Detective Bureau for further investigation.

Although this was not an emergency situation, there is always risk when working underwater and entering into an unknown scene," says Sheriff Mat King, in a statement,
No other details have been released, including exactly where in St. Clair County the car was found or what type of vehicle it was.
