TROY (WWJ) – An Oakland County woman is facing possible charges of driving while intoxicated after Troy police officers found her asleep at the wheel in a parking lot last week.
Officers were called to do a welfare check at 3688 Rochester Road, between Wattles and Big Beaver, around 5:30 on May 3 after employees spotted the woman sleeping in her car near a BP gas station and car wash.
The employees told police they tried to wake the woman, but she quickly fell back asleep.
When officers showed up and talked with the 31-year-old Highland woman, they "immediately noted she was under the influence of an unknown substance," Troy police officials said.
The woman's eyes were glassy, her speech was slow and slurred, and "her actions and reactions were slow and delayed."
When she was asked to get out of the car, she was off-balance, unsteady on her feet, and had urinated on herself, according to police.
She admitted to drinking alcohol earlier in the day and taking pain medication from a recent surgery. The woman performed poorly on sobriety tests and blew a .20% on a preliminary breath test. She was arrested and taken to the Troy Police Lock-up facility.
While searching her car, officers found a Sig Sauer P238 handgun in her purse on the front seat, along with her Concealed Pistol License.
Medical personnel drew the woman's blood for a chemical test and the case was turned over to the Troy Detective Bureau for appropriate warrants. Her name has not been released.
