Detroit family still searching for answers 35 years after woman was found murdered in burned-down house

DETROIT (WWJ) – More than three decades after she was found murdered in Detroit, the family of Jacqueline Wise is still asking for answers.

Detroit firefighters found Wise, 34, beaten to death while responding to a house fire at a home on Chalfonte Street on March 24, 1988.

On Wednesday, her family renewed pleas for tips in the case, 35 years later.

Her sister, Phyliss Poole, said at a press conference with Crime Stoppers she has been dealing with the grief of losing her sister to a brutal murder. And she believes it was someone Wise knew.

"It wasn't any forced entry or anything. It was probably someone she knew and probably someone that we know," Poole said, according to a report from WDIV.

While the case has gone cold, Poole believes modern-day forensic science can help investigators find the suspect, so she's asking anyone who may know something to come forward.

"The murderer is still out there," Poole said, according to the report. "We don't know if they're smiling in our face. We don't know anything."

Crime Stoppers is offering a cash reward of up to $2,500 for any information that leads to an arrest in the case. Anyone with information should contact Detroit police or call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP.

As always, all Crime Stoppers tipsters will remain anonymous. Tips can also be submitted on the Crime Stoppers website.

"Please, if you know anything or know of anyone that may have something to do with this, please speak up," Poole said. "It could be your family. Just imagine if it was your family."
