
Ahead of two tropical storms that are headed toward the Louisiana coast, the top echelon of Jefferson Parish government address residents about their plans in the face of the storms which may or may not evolve into hurricanes.
Sheriff Lopinto underscored the dependability of the Sheriff’s Department to continue to respond to 911 calls.
Emergency Management Director Joe Valiente talked about the first JP leadership conference call, to get everyone on the same page about the incoming threat. “Knowledge and information as the two most important tools that we can use to keep people informed,” Valiente said.
“We’re looking at unprecedented times, with possible having two hurricanes at the same time in the Gulf of Mexico,” Councilman Templet began. “We want to make sure that you’re prepared, get your medicines, get your food, get your water, get your plans together now while we have time. We’re not here to panic you, we’re here to prepare you.”
Public works director Mark Drewes stated his department is well prepared to handle the event, as infrastructure is in good shape to handle the storm.
