After pleading guilty to attempted manslaughter over the death of Linda Frickey – a 72-year-old woman who was dragged so violently that her arm was ripped off during a 2022 carjacking – they were sentenced this week to 20 years in prison.
“By having these three now go to prison, their parents have lost them,” said Jinny Griffin – Frickey’s sister – of Briniyah Baker, 17, Lenyra Theophile, 16, and Mar’Qel Curtis, 16. “And the only one we really have no mercy on is the guy, because he definitely did everything. He beat her. He dragged her and he drove the car.”
Griffin was referring to John Honore, 18, who still faces second-degree murder charges. A trial for Honore begins next week. As for the three teen girls sentenced this week, Griffin said that they will be eligible for parole in around 15 years.
“It was a sad day because, you know, three young ladies have lost basically their… their youth because they’re now... will spend the next at least 15 years in prison,” she said. “Which is what we wanted. They took Linda’s life. They didn’t do anything to stop it. But, you know, this is just a bad outcome. It’s just bad situations because no one gets back the person they lost. No one.”
Griffin said Frickey’s family also plans to attend Honore’s trial. Listen to her full conversation with WWL’s Newell Normand here.
