The man who, according to state police, caused a deadly crash by leaving a pickup truck and a box trailer sitting in the northbound lane of the US 11 Bridge is now in jail on negligent homicide charges.
State troopers say they arrested Hector Garcia, 54, of Slidell overnight. He’s accused of abandoning his truck and trailer late Friday night or early Saturday morning on the bridge and hitching a ride with someone else.
Another driver, Antoine Lewis, 34, of New Orleans, crashed into the back of the trailer around 3 a.m. Saturday while driving towards Slidell on the bridge. Lewis died at the scene.
Garcia is also facing aggravated obstruction of a highway, driving with a suspended license, and unsafe vehicle charges.
The crash remains under investigation.
