Two more suspects in Friday’s threats made against New Orleans public schools are in custody.
The NOPD announced those arrests, which bring the total number of suspects in custody to five, on Saturday. In the same statement, an NOPD spokesperson walked back an earlier statement that a social media account that posted the names and photos of alleged juvenile suspects was doing so illegally.
“These posts are not affiliated with NOPD, and the information shared has not been verified by our department,” NOPD spokesperson Reese Harper said in a news release. “In an earlier communication, we referred to such posts as ‘unlawful.’ To clarify, while these posts may not violate Louisiana law, they raise important concerns about the potential for misinformation. NOPD is committed to ensuring that all public communications are accurate and responsible.”
Harper said the names of the suspects will be released “at the appropriate time in accordance with legal guidelines.”
