ST. LOUIS COUNTY (KMOX) - The Major Case Squad believes they have one of the two suspects wanted in connection to the fatal shootings of two people in St. Louis County over the weekend. They're also wanted for a murder in South Carolina and had a shootout with police there on Monday.
Brentwood Police Chief Joe Spiess called the couple a "modern-day Bonnie and Clyde." He says Adrian Simpson, 34, and Tyler Terry, 24, are from South Carolina and have no apparent ties to St. Louis. Simpson is in custody in connection to the shooting deaths of Barbara Goodkin in University City and Dr. Sergei Zacharev in Brentwood. Both were killed on Saturday night during robberies.
The couple was back in South Carolina on Monday where they were involved in a shootout with police. Simpson was taken into custody there.
Terry was able to run from police and is still loose. He's wanted in connection to multiple violent crimes and at least one other murder in South Carolina.
According to reports, Simpson and Terry are wanted in connection to the death of Simpson's husband. His body was found in a ditch last week.
Spiess says the key to solving the case was the license plate on the silver SUV involved. The plate was stolen off another vehicle in St. Louis County just hours before the murders took place, he says.
He also says detectives gathered information from drug dealers in north St. Louis who allegedly sold drugs to Simpson and Terry the day after the murders.
The Major Case Squad is sending seven agent to talk to Simpson in South Carolina.
