MARKHAM, Ill. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Police have identified the victims in a deadly overnight crash in the south suburbs that remains under investigation.

A four-car crash in Markham left two people dead and another individual
fighting for their life Saturday morning. Markham Deputy Police Chief Samuel Harris identified the victims as Zachary Kulak, 33 of Homewood and Carlos Mendoza, 20 of Harvey.

The vehicles crashed and burst into flames around 8:30 p.m. Friday night near 159th Street and the Tri-State tollway.

Harris said one of the survivors was "partially in flames" and rescued by officers. He also confirmed that speed was a factor in the accident, but would not speculate if drugs, alcohol, or drag racing played a role at all.

The cause of the crash is yet to be determined as the investigation continues.

This is a developing story. Check back for further updates.
