(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- State Sen. Darren Bailey blames his Democratic rival in the governor’s race for graphic threats a Chicago man allegedly made against him and his family.
The suspect, police say, said he would skin the Republican state senator from Southern Illinois alive. Bailey said the trigger is Gov. JB Pritzker because the incumbent has characterized him as an extremist and “a threat to democracy.”
Scott Lennox, 21, of 3300 N. Lake Shore Drive, is charged with one felony count each of threatening a public official, telephone harassment and harassment by electronic communications.
Authorities say he became incensed after watching a political television ad and left the string of threats in a voicemail.
“I’m going to skin Darren Bailey alive, making sure he is still alive, and I’m going to feed his f——— family to him as he is alive and screaming in f——— pain,” Lennox allegedly said in the voicemail.
Bailey discussed the threats Thursday in Louisville, Illinois as he cast an early ballot.
Cindy Bailey, the senator’s wife, says she knows being under attack is part of a political life – up to a point.
“When they come after our children and our grandchildren … that’s a problem and it makes me righteously angry.”
Pritzker and other Democrats have condemned the threats.
