(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Michael Shahwan, the owner of Bourjois Tailoring in Morton Grove, has been making suits for about 60 years — and he has no plans to stop.

“I love what I’m doing,” Shahwan said. “I used to have a tailor shop, too. I opened it in 1972 on Devon, and I stayed over there 30 years.”

Shahwan started tailoring in Bethlehem, where he learned the craft as a teenager.

“I used to work for a tailor in Kuwait,” Shahwan said. “He was Lebanese. He had name Bourjois because Lebanon was occupied by the French.”

Although demand for suits has been down since the pandemic began, Shahwan said he believes there’ll be a revival.

“I get addicted to the tailoring, and I love to do tailoring, really, and I enjoy it — just like an artist who paints picture,” Shahwan said. “He loves painting.”

Shahwan said his hand-stitched suits start at $6,000. At 74 years old, he plans to launch a YouTube channel to educate people on buying suits.
