(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Chicago and suburban residents are being urged to help the people of Jackson, Mississippi as the city’s water crisis continues by donating bottled water over the next three days — a stockpile that will be trucked down next week.

The water drive is being organized by Early Walker, a tow company owner and philanthropist, who’s done this before. He said he has family members in Mississippi who asked him to help.

Also bolstering the effort is state Rep. Marcus Evans, who calls water “the basis of human existence.”

A first-year student at Jackson State University, Kahlil Brown of Matteson, just returned home to wait out the crisis in Mississippi.

Water drive organizers are planning to fill at least three semis donated by Custom Trucking.
