CHICAGO (WBBM Newsradio) – A 33-year-old man has been charged with first-degree murder in the fatal shooting of a Chicago Office of Emergency Management and Communications employee earlier this year.
Chicago police said Darreon Plummer is accused of shooting 36-year-old Da’J Flowers on Feb. 5 in the 6900 block of North Bell Avenue in the West Ridge neighborhood.
Flowers was found the following day with a gunshot wound to her abdomen after she failed to report to work. An OEMC deputy director requested a well-being check, according to CBS Chicago. Flowers was pronounced dead at the scene.
She worked as a senior administrative assistant for OEMC.
Authorities issued a nationwide warrant for Plummer in late August. Records show he was arrested Sept. 1 in Snohomish County, Washington, where he was held while awaiting extradition.
Chicago police and members of the U.S. Marshals Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force took custody of Plummer on Wednesday at O’Hare International Airport, police said.
The arrest followed a months-long investigation by Area Three detectives.
Plummer was scheduled to appear Friday for a detention hearing at the Leighton Criminal Court Building.
