(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Nearly four months after the shooting death of a Carol Stream man after police entered his apartment, the names of the officers connected with the incident have been released.
Following a federal judge's order, attorneys representing the village of Carol Stream provided the officers' names to lawyers for the family of Isaac Goodlow, III.
Goodlow was shot in his apartment in early February, as the six officers responded to what police say was a domestic violence call.
The family of Goodlow, who was Black, filed a federal civil rights lawsuit against the village of Carol Stream and the officers who entered the apartment. Those officers have been identified as Sergeant Steve Cadle, as well as Officers Dan Pfingston, Nick Janetis, Molly McGovern, Austin Marquardt and Dan Koeller.
The family claims the killing was unjustified and they have demanded the officers responsible for Goodlow's death face criminal charges.
A lawyer for the family is calling on the DuPage County State's Attorney's Office to move swiftly on its independent investigation into the shooting.
Civil rights attorney Andrew M. Stroth of Action Injury Law Group, released the following statement on behalf of the family:
“It has taken the Village of Carol Stream almost four months to release the names of the police officers involved in tragic and unjustified shooting of Isaac Goodlow III, a 30 year-old Black man. The Village is finally releasing this information based upon the order of the judge in the pending federal civil rights case. At the time of the shooting, Isaac was unarmed and shot in the sanctity of his own bedroom. The Goodlow family hopes DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin will move swiftly with his independent investigation and charging decision.”
