(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Mayor Lightfoot says an ordinance presented before the City Council would help ensure that some longtime South Side homeowners can stay put.
The Mayor and City Department of Housing officials say the South Shore condo preservation pilot program would give South Shore condo associations the ability to apply for grants to address maintenance and repairs.
Funding would come from the Chicago Community Loan Fund-up to $5 million each year over the next three years.
A statement from Mayor Lightfoot says the ordinance “would ensure that longtime homeowners, many of them older and on fixed incomes, can remain affordably housed.”
Council will also consider plans for a $4 million loan to Sarah's Circle to fund the development of a 28- unit supportive housing facility in Uptown.
