(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- For the eighth time in less than a year, a fire hydrant in Geneva painted in rainbow colors has been vandalized.

The hydrant is part of Geneva's Art on Fire program. Its rainbow colors pay tribute to LGBTQ Pride.

"By painting over the rainbow design, someone is trying to send a message that we are not welcome here,” said Kylie Peters, co-founder of Belong: Fox Valley, an LGBTQ organization.

"And it's extremely important to us to counter that and say, actually we are and we're going to come together and show you -- show everyone -- that this is a place for us."

Peters says the hydrant has been repainted in rainbow colors.

One person was arrested after the hydrant was vandalized in September.
