Rise in COVID cases coinciding with flu, other viruses: Health Experts

(WBBM NEWSRADIO) --Top Cook County medical officials say COVID-19 is indeed back and its rise coincides with the flu and other illnesses.

And Dr. Sharon Welbel, head of epidemiology and infection control for Cook County Health said Respiratory Syncytial Virus RSV is still around.

"The rate of influenza cases is rising more quickly than the other two and the next would be COVID and the last would be RSV," she explained.

"So we seem to have plateaued in many of the states including in Illinois with RSV. "

Dr. Nicole Lee, lead physician at Provident Hospital's Sengstacke Health Center said that fortunately the facility can be a one stop shop.

"If our patients are having symptoms, they are able to come in and get tested for COVID, flu, RSV and adenovirus and so that, you know, is kind of a nice way of getting all four of them with one swab."
