(WBBM NEWSRADIO) – A student at Wredling Middle School in St. Charles was passing around chocolate on Friday as part of a “spicy chocolate challenge.”

The substance was confiscated by a middle school employee and later tested positive for trace amounts of cannabis, officials said.

Community Unit School District 303 says 12 students and a staff member ate the chocolate; some members of the group experienced “mild levels of impairment,” while others had no signs of impairment.

The students met with the nurse and their parents picked them up, while the staff member was taken home by a rideshare service.

District 303 tells WBBM Newsradio that school and district administrators are working to ensure the appropriate disciplinary actions are taken.
