CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Some residents of the West Loop attended a community meeting last night concerning two new migrant shelters.
The newest shelters, on the 1600 block of West Walnut Street and the 300 block of North Ogden Avenue, are drawing some of the same complaints that have come up at other community meetings.
There are concerns about crime, garbage, quality of life and the impact on businesses.
One man at the meeting in the gym at Union Park said the city gives more notice for street-sweeping.
A representative from the mayor’s office said she wished the city got some notice from Texas before the migrants were sent here.
A woman at the meeting said she wasn’t there to complain, but instead want to know how she could help and asked others to do the same, the Chicago Tribune reports.
More than 13,000 migrants have been sent to the city. More are expected.
There are 16 shelters and roughly 2,000 migrants are sleeping at police stations and the airports.
