News The 6 Best Moments From Eddie Murphy’s Return to 'SNL'

The 6 Best Moments From Eddie Murphy’s Return to 'SNL'

It was one of the most highly-anticipated TV moments of the season.

Eddie Murphy made his return to “SNL” on Saturday night after leaving the show 35 years ago.

The reunion was worth the wait, with the former “Saturday Night Live” cast member reprising some of the best roles from his 1980-84 stint on the show.

The star-studded episode featured special guest appearances, a killer Lizzo performance and off-script crack-ups that make ‘SNL’ so great.

Whether you missed the episode or want to relive the hilarious bits, these are the best moments from last night’s episode.

Star-Studded Opening Monologue

Murphy started the show with a monologue, where he talked about being a father and the birth of his son last year. “That means I have ten kids now,” the comedian quipped. “Eleven if you count Kevin Hart.” Later in the intro, he was joined by some of the biggest from the generation he influenced: Tracy Morgan, Dave Chappelle and Chris Rock.

Mister Robinson’s Neighborhood Has Changed

Die-hard fans cheered for the return of Mister Robinson. And the Mr. Rogers spoof couldn’t have come at a better time. Mister Robinson explained a lot has changed since his last go-around -- he’s older, wiser and now a property squatter.

Gumby’s Back

Murphy brought back fan favorite Gumby during the Weekend Update segment. The audience weren’t the only ones loving it. ScarJo’s hubby Colin Jost lost it right on stage.

The Masked Corn on the Cob

Watch this bizarre sketch, where the “Masked Singer” judges try to guess who’s in that Corn on the Cob costume.

Dem Debate Spoof

These days, no “SNL” cold open is complete without the requisite political spoof. The cast did a hilarious take on this past Thursday’s democratic debate, with other “SNL” alum Larry David returning for his only non-Larry David role as Bernie Sanders.

Lizzo Brings Down the House

Lizzo had people talking with this risque performance of her hit “Good as Hell.” Her rocking performance included her signature twerk, in an outfit that was business in the tux front, and party in the see-thru back.
