Many sci-fi movies have predicted a world where payments can be made simply by scanning a chip placed inside a person. While some hope the world never gets to that point, Amazon is introducing something in DFW that may seem pretty close. The company announced recently they plan to bring their palm reading checkouts to all their DFW Whole Foods locations in the coming weeks.

Starting Tuesday, Whole Foods in Irving and Highland Village will have Amazon’s new palm reading checkouts. While this service, known as Amazon One, has been implemented in other stores around the country, it will soon be available at all 16 North Texas Whole Foods locations. All customers have to do is enroll their palm with the Amazon One service and link to a credit or debit card.

According to Dallas Morning News, this can be done at an Amazon Kiosk and takes less than a minute to complete. For those that may not trust the service, palm images aren’t stored on the Amazon One device, but instead encrypted and sent to the cloud. While flying cars aren’t a thing yet, at least we now have this.
