One of the biggest fears engrained in many students from a young age is a fear of forgetting a late library book. Sure, while the late fees at libraries are rarely for a lot of money, a lost or forgotten book could lead to charges adding up. Luckily for patrons of the Arlington Public Library, they just announced they will no longer be charging late fees for any of their items.
In recent years, a trend has begun in libraries across the country of getting rid of late fees. Now, the Arlington Public Library has announced they will join the movement as well. According to NBC DFW, the library will also waive previous charges any patron may have had. “This is a significant step in removing barriers to access. Becoming a fine-free library is our commitment to leveling opportunities for all patrons," said Library Director Norma Zuniga.

The library currently has more than 55,000 media items from books to audiobooks to DVDs and more. While patrons are still encouraged to follow return dates, they will no longer face penalty for their forgetfulness. The only downside is now there will no longer be stories about books costing thousands after years of not being returned.
