The U.S. Coast Guard arrested 23 fishermen after 900 pounds of illegal red snapper were seized in the Gulf of Mexico off the Texas shore Sunday evening.
According to Chron, the Coast Guard said that five boats had been hauling the snapper, along with sharks that were illegally caught in the area north of the Maritime Boundary Line.
Lt. Shane Gunderson, the commanding officer for Coast Guard Station South Padre Island, said in a statement, "Our Coast Guard crews remain committed to eliminating illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing in our nation's sovereign waters.
"Through highly coordinated response efforts with our federal and state partners, we will continue to combat this environmental and economic threat."
