Any time an animal is born at the Dallas Zoo it gets a special social media shout out letting fans know they will get to see something new during their next visit. However, their latest announcement was extra special as the animal born here in DFW is part of an endangered species. The Dallas Zoo recently celebrated the hatching of a whooping crane as the zoo hopes this helps the path of recovery for the endangered animal.

Earlier this week, the Dallas Zoo announced they successfully hatched a whooping crane last month. The endangered species was born June 10 at the zoo's offsite crane facility. “Whooping Crane chicks are a cinnamon-brown color when they hatch. This youngster will start to develop the species' signature snowy white feather coat at around four months of age,” said the zoo.

According to NBC DFW, the whooping crane is “thriving” in its new environment, though the endangered species will remain at the zoo’s five-acre off-site breeding facility at the Whooping Crane Center of Texas in Mesquite. With this whooping crane, maybe one day the entire species will be back to normal.
