When comedian Bob Saget passed away last week, the tributes came pouring in from countless friends and celebrities. However, the real surprise was the amount of tributes made by people who were not known to the world, or had only met the actor once, that claim Saget made an impact on their life. One of those tributes came from DFW's own Jay Mandyam, who claims Saget was a mentor to him as he tried to start a career as a comedian.
Jay Mandyam started him life in DFW, going to J.J. Pearce High School in Richardson and then SMU, but after school decided to pack up and move to the west coast to follow his dream of becoming a stand-up comedian. That's where Mandyam met Bob Saget, while working at the Comedy Store in Los Angeles. "I was just a speck of dust, he had no reason to be as kind to me as he was. I'm grateful that he even paid that much attention to me," said Mandyam.
According to WFAA, Mandyam would send Saget clips of his stand-up over the years, and though they weren't close, the aspiring comedian claims the 'Full House' actor always responded with great advice. Since starting his career, Mandyam has appeared in 'Silicon Valley,' 'Modern Family' and more. Now, the comedian is thanking his mentor for all the help.
