Over the years, there have been many cases of musicians using other people’s music without their permission. One of the most famous cases is Diddy sampling Sting’s ‘Every Breath You Take’ for his 1997 hit ‘I’ll Be Missing You.’ Now, after years of rumors Diddy has confirmed the outlandish price he pays Sting daily for using his song.
A 2018 interview with Sting recently resurfaced online, bringing a new audience to the singer’s claim that he still receives daily payments from Diddy for sampling his song without his permission. In the interview, Sting claims Diddy pays him $2,000 a day for the sample. Now, five years later Diddy has finally confirmed he makes the daily payments, although not for the amount Sting claims.
“Nope. 5K a day. Love to my brother @OfficialSting!” Diddy wrote in a now viral tweet. According to NME, the payments will continue for the rest of Diddy’s life. At least both songs are still being played today.
