The Houston Police Department is dealing with an internal issue regarding the thousands of pieces of evidence they've collected through their investigations over the years.

Mayor John Whitmire said in a press conference last week, "We got 400,000 pounds of marijuana in storage that the rats are the only ones enjoying."

Yes, the HPD is dealing with an infestation of drug-addicted rats tearing apart their investigation room!

According to Chron, Houston Police Department Chief Noe Diaz said the rodent infestation is really only affecting older cases from marijuana confiscated in the '80s and '90s, but its proximity to more recent pieces of evidence poses a problem for the department.

Houston police has 1.2 million pieces of evidence in storage, with some pieces dating back to the '40s.  Currently, the department is forbidden to dispose of narcotics evidence collected before 2005, regardless if the case has been dismissed.
