Historic Downtown McKinney is already one of the most beloved locations in all of DFW, but it may soon go through some changes that could make it even more popular. The city of McKinney recently unveiled plans for an ambitious new project that would connect historic Downtown McKinney with legacy neighborhoods east of Highway 5. The project would involve either a deck park or improvements to the existing crossing, and the city is asking locals for their thoughts.

On Tuesday, the City of McKinney heard from dozens of residents at the McKinney Performing Arts Center, providing feedback on their plan for historic Downtown McKinney. The city wants to either build a deck park that would push Highway 5 underground, an inverted deck park that would be built below the highway or improvements to the existing area that would include wider sidewalks but no park.

“Our council, our mayor wants to truly do something bold, something truly unique to McKinney that really knits these two parts of the city back together,” said Assistant City Manager Kim Flom. According to NBC DFW, the public feedback will be presented to the city council at a meeting in the fall. With this project, historic Downtown McKinney may soon look very different.
