While they say Christmas isn’t all about the gifts, there is something special about opening a present to reveal the item you have spent a year wishing for. In most cases, the best Christmases revolve around a present that helped change someone’s life, and Jon Bon Jovi is no different. The iconic frontman recently shared the story of getting his first guitar on Christmas, and clearly that was a gift that paid for itself in the long run.

Jon Bon Jovi recently took to Instagram to tell his followers one of his favorite Christmas stories. It took place in 1975 when Bon Jovi was just 13-years-old, and after spending a year asking for a guitar, the future rock star got exactly what he had been wishing for. “I was picking up the wrapping paper and I picked up a piece that was under the couch and I looked under there and there was a Univox Stratocaster and it was a big surprise,” said Bon Jovi.

According to App, some Univoxes from the ’60 and ’70s are now considered collector’s items. As for the one Bon Jovi received, he said “You don't forget things like that.” Good thing his parents decided to give in and get him that guitar.
