Back in 2020, a failed implosion of a building gave DFW a temporary attraction that had many throughout the metroplex flocking to the area to take pictures. Dubbed the “Leaning Tower of Dallas,” the building stayed up for weeks before crews were able to safely dismantle the rest. Now, over two years later the lot that has remained empty is about to get an upgrade with a new $2.5 billion development.

Next month, the lot located at the corner of Haskell Avenue and North Central Expressway will break ground on a new development, bringing new restaurants and buildings to the area. The project is being led by De La Vega Development, who will redevelop the former building’s footprint and the 27 acres around it. “I see nothing but potential. It was certainly an opportunity that we couldn’t pass by,” said Artemio De La Vega, CEO of De La Vega Development.

According to WFAA, the new development will include a 20-story tower with 350 apartments, a 400-apartment multi-use tower, 200,000 square-feet of office space and a 185-room hotel. There will also be a four-acre park and new restaurant concepts from across the country. Hopefully this time they can keep all the buildings upright.
