It’s no secret that high school football is taken very seriously throughout the state of Texas. In some towns, the success of their local team is more important than the success of the college or professional teams throughout the state. That was proven once again this week when Melissa High School debut their new $35 million football stadium that can fit half the town’s population.

Melissa High School may only have 1,300 students enrolled at the school, but their new football stadium has enough seats for 10,000. Photos of the high school stadium, 40 miles north of Dallas, went viral this week showing off the massive size, new field and luxury suites the stadium has to offer. According to Texas HS Football, the stadium can fit half the population of Melissa, which was at 19,397 on the 2022 U.S. Census.

The new stadium comes as the school’s football team moves up to the 5A-D2 level. Their first game of the 2023 season will be on September 1. With this new stadium, the team has plenty of hype to live up to.
