Homecoming mums are a tradition unique to Texas and over their 100-year-history in the state, have taken on a life off their own.

Every year, mums just get bigger, and the designs gets more elaborate.

A North Texas mom has found her niche designing mums, though she opted to go smaller with the design.

Kristian Recio from Aledo was making a mini mum for her six-year-old, when she decided to pop an incredibly small mum on her Stanley tumbler.  It instantly became a hit.

Recio told WFAA, "It's just a Texas thing and I think it's just a tradition. I'm not even sure how it came to be, but it is so important.

"I've had grandparents asking to wear them, to pin it for the game to support their player or their drill team girl."

Recio has had orders for Stanley mums from as far as San Antonio, and she says she's making dozens of mums a day just to fulfill orders before homecoming football games.

"I don't even know how it blew up like this, but it has been really cool to see," she said.

You can check out Recio's work on her design page HERE.
