DFW is definitely a sports town, whether anyone outside the metroplex wants to admit it or not. Between the four major sports teams, and professional leagues constantly using AT&T Stadium, Globe Life Field and the American Airlines Center as venues, North Texas has become a major sporting destination in recent years. Now, yet another professional team may be coming to the metroplex, as a DFW-based ownership group is looking to move Austin Bold FC to Fort Worth.
The United Soccer League Championship is looking for a new home for their Austin-based franchise and another Texas city is in the running. While nothing has been confirmed, the group led by former Dallas Mavericks general manager Donnie Nelson, Texas Rangers president and chief operating officer Neil Leibman, and motorsports executive Bobby Epstein is hoping to keep the team in the Lone Star state. “We have to compete to get their business, and that’s what I’ve been working on for the past two years,” said District 4 city council member Cary Moon.

According to the Fort Worth Star Telegram, the deal would include the construction of a new stadium that would be the home of the relocated Austin franchise, as well as a women’s team as part of the newly formed USL Super League. Hopefully soon there will be a new team to disappoint the metroplex.
