Report finds the Spurs mascot is the eighth highest-paid in the nation, making more than the governor of Texas

Believe it or not, being the mascot of a professional sports team pays extremely well.

A new report conducted by GamblingSites found the top paid mascots around the country in 2025, and a mascot from Texas is one of the very best paid in the nation.

The San Antonio Spurs’ mascot The Coyote ranked as the eighth highest-paid in the nation, pulling in annual salary of $200,000 a year, surpassing the salary of the governor of Texas Greg Abbott who earns $153,750.

GamblingSites credits The Coyote’s high salary for “not only the entertainment he brings to fans but also the broader role mascots now play in shaping team identity and fan experience.”

9 - Hugo the Hornet (Charlotte Hornets | NBA): $100,000
8 - The Coyote (San Antonio Spurs | NBA): $200,000
7 - Go the Gorilla (Phoenix Suns | NBA): $200,000
6 - Phillie Phanatic (Philadelphia Phillies | MLB): $200,000
5 - Wally the Green Monster (Boston Red Sox | MLB): $250,000 annual salary
4 - Gritty (Philadelphia Flyers | NHL): $250,000
3 - Benny the Bull (Chicago Bulls | NBA): $400,000
2 - Harry the Hawk (Atlanta Hawks | NBA): $600,000
1 - Rocky the Mountain Lion (Denver Nuggets | NBA): $625,000
