Going to the airport is already a stressful experience, which is why anytime a flight gets cancelled there’s a solid chance someone at the airport is going to freak out. With seemingly more and more airlines cancelling flights, many have been forced to rethink their vacation plans. Now, Southwest Airlines has announced plans to cut nearly 20,000 flights from their simmer schedule, including about 800 flights out of Dallas Love Field.
With the airline industry continuing to deal with supply chain issues and labor shortages, Southwest Airlines was recently forced to make a move that will upset many loyal customers. After reporting another quarter of losses this week, the airline decided to cancel 20,000 flights this summer. Nearly 4% of those will be flights out of Dallas Love Field. “Of course, if we need to trim more capacity we certainly can, but I’m cautiously optimistic that we can get to a good balance of headcount and operate our schedules for the remainder of the year,” said Southwest Airlines CEO Bob Jordan.

According to Dallas Morning News, the airlines also plans to hire 2,000 workers, bringing the goal to 10,000 net new workers for the year, to help deal with the issues. The cut flights will take place between June and Labor Day. With these moves, road trips may be the way to go this year.
