We know folks living near Lake Lewisville had their hearts dropped when they looked out and saw what appeared to be a tornado forming over the water.

We have to imagine they were thinking, “It’s already a mess with all the snow and ice, and now THIS?!”

It may have looked like a tornado, but it was actually a “Steamnado” that popped up over Lake Lewisville, the result of arctic air blowing over warm waters.

FOX 4 chief meteorologist Dan Henry says this phenomenon is “somewhat common” when arctic winds move in.
