Texas has been dealing with record heat all summer long, which means air conditioning units have been working overtime. However, some still feel their homes aren’t getting cool enough, with some claiming the set temperature on their thermostat going up without their control. Now, a number of Texas energy companies have revealed they can remotely control thermostats, depending on the plan used by the home.

On Wednesday, as ERCOT was asking Texans to conserve energy, a number of homeowners reported their homes went into conservation mode without their control. Now, TXU Energy has revealed they can take control of a home’s thermostat, though it is unknown how many homes had their temperatures risen this week. According to WFAA, the "Demand Response Program" can remotely change customers' thermostats "by a few degrees for a short time, normally less than an hour."

This comes after it was reported last month that CenterPoint Energy in Houston could control homes thermostats remotely as well. TXU Energy claims there are tens of thousands of customers participating in the program. Next time it feels a little warm inside, homeowners may want to check to see what energy plan they are on.
