A mansion in Dallas that went viral for its Christmas lights display that rivals the Griswolds’ has cost taxpayers some of that money they received as gifts over the holidays.
According to NBC DFW, the home on Deloache Avenue cost the taxpayers over $25,000 due to the extra police force needed to maintain composure as throngs of folks visited the neighborhood to see the lights.
Dallas City Council District 13 representative Gay Donnell Willis said the total expense for on-duty DPD resources included: $17,546.35 for personnel, $7,206.19 for city vehicles, and $622.50 for its helicopter, totaling $25,375.04.
Willis expressed concerns about the focus of DPD officers patrolling the neighborhood when they could be out responding to 911 calls and will direct city staff members to “seek potential changes within the law to city code or policy to avoid a repeat anywhere in the city.”
“Look at this as a lesson of how we might strengthen this and strike a balance between the joy and spirit of the season of holiday lights and not letting it tick over into being a major neighborhood disruption,” she said.
